About the theater
Poltava Academic Ukrainian Musical and Drama Theater named after M. Gogol is one of the best theaters in the country, which dates back to 1818, when the outstanding founder of the new Ukrainian literature Ivan Kotlyarevsky created a theater troupe in Poltava region. Contemporary history of the Theater has begun in 1936, when a stationary troupe appeared with its premises.
The repertoire of the theater has always been composed of musical and dramatic performances, because a powerful professional troupe has the creative potential to embody any creative proposal. Nowadays, in the repertoire of the theater, performances that you will not find on the stages of other Ukrainian theaters. These are «Master and Margarita», « One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest », and « Hetman’s Last Love», and «Terrible Revenge», «Moment ... Life ...» and «Dog's Heart».
Also popular for the public are the legendary productions «The betrothal at Goncharivka», «Natalka Poltavka», «Aeneid», «Hanuma», «Marusya Churai» and many others.
The theater has a wide geography of touring and festival trips. Viewers at all-Ukrainian and international festivals applauded actors of this theater in different cities of our country (Kolomyia, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, Kherson) and abroad (Poland, Italy, USA).
